Jabari Parker Received Recruiting Advice From Derrick Rose

Nov 29, 2012 8:10 PM

Jabari Parker received recruiting advice from Derrick Rose.

Rose advised Parker, Illinois’ reigning Mr. Basketball, to consider comfort level when choosing a college.

“Usually when I talk to him it's brief,” Parker said of his conversations with Rose. “He gives me a little advice as far as college, choosing who's going to be there for you…someone who’s going to help you not only for basketball, but help you in school and give you dreams to strive for.”

When asked to identify factors that will influence his decision, Parker said: "Relationship with the coach, relationship with the team and the style of play. Also, how will [the team] be the following year as far as [whether] the coach is going to stay or not."

Parker is considering Michigan State, Stanford, BYU, Duke and Florida.

Nov 15, 2012 8:27 PM

Jabari Parker will make a recruiting trip to BYU over Thanksgiving weekend.

Parker, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is scheduled to speak at the Salt Lake University LDS Institute of Religion on the evening of Nov. 25, according to his brother, Christian Parker.

Jabari spoke at a similar gathering in Oakland, Calif., last August when he visited Stanford.

"I think it will be a good way for people to feel a little bit of Jabari's diligence in trying to be a good kid," Christian said.

Jabari Parker will not sign his letter of intent during the November early period.

Lola Parker said Tuesday her son is "not signing," but will probably commit in December.

Parker was scheduled to visit Stanford last weekend, but that will now likely happen in December.

Parker is scheduled to visit Brigham Young over Thanksgiving weekend.

"We've kind of left it to Jabari to figure it out, what he wants to do," Lola Parker said. "It's a great place to be in, that you can pick and choose and have choices."
